Planting:

The depth and width of planting seeds depends on the size and type of seed. Generally, the bigger the seed, the deeper it needs to be planted and the more space there needs to be between the each planting. A good rule to keep in mind is to plant seeds 2-3 times as deep as their longest side. Very small seeds do not really even need to be covered, just give them a very swallow indention in which to grow. Another general rule is planting in each row should be about 1-2 inches apart for very small seeds, 2-3 inches apart for medium seeds, and 3-4 inches apart for larger seeds. Add 2-3 seeds to each hole because not all are going to germinate, and beyond that, not all are going to make it past seedling stage. Once the seedlings are a few inches tall, begin thinning them out. A couple weeks later thin the plants again, leaving the healthiest ones enough room the grow and flourish.
