Improvements
Although the solar box cooker works well, there are still some things we would do different to improve the design and quality of cooker.
Materials: First of all we would be attempt to eliminate the use of all toxic materials. This would entail being sure to use a non-toxic flat black paint for the inside of the small box to avoiding off-gasing, using a rope gasket (similar to ones used for a wood stove door) rather then a silicon gasket, and finding an alternative sealer to silicon appoxy.
Design: If the materials were available we would make a basic change in the dimensions of the boxes so they would be elongated (left to right) allowing a larger area to cook in and a greater area of glazing for radiation to penetrate. Regardless of the size of the cooker we would also design a prop (similar to one used for the hood of a car engine) to allow the cook to have both hands free when adding or removing food from the cooker. We would also seek a better way to attach the aluminim cans to the reflectors eliminating all rough and sharp edges. Finally we would also like to find a different way to frame the glass, only becuase the process was tedious and difficult. We would also add two handels to the sides of the outer box to move easily.
