Worm Bins and Composting

As part of the APC’s youth after-school program, I helped teach the kids about composting and vermiculture (composting with worms). The younger kids each got to design and paint their own worm bucket. The older kids helped make a larger compost pile for their cluster of houses. The goal of this part of the project was to show the kids about natural cycles. The worms and compost will be added to the raised beds in the children’s part of the garden, where they will grow lettuce and other greens for the turtles that they keep as pets in the classroom.
